The changing face of apprenticeships
The word “apprentice” has taken on several different meanings over the last few years and with rising tuition fees, high levels of graduate unemployment and a growing skills shortage in industry, the government is investing heavily in promoting apprenticeships as something we have always known – that they are an equally valid career choice as further education or employment.
Manufacturing: A strong sector with well-paid and skilled job opportunities
Despite tough economic times, manufacturing is still responsible for 55% of UK exports and its productivity regularly outpaces economic growth. All of this helps the UK maintain its position as the world’s sixth largest manufacturing nation.
Average earnings in manufacturing are higher than those in the services sector and indeed the economy as a whole.
